Hi there, my name is Logan Pillay, born and raised in Durban, South Africa, in the province of KwaZulu Natal (KZN). I am the fourth of six siblings and I grew up in a suburb called Chatsworth which is located just south of Durban. In the Apartheid era, the different race groups were separated from each other, we lived with predominantly Indian people. We hardly ever saw white people in the area and those that we saw would usually supervise road works or electrical installations in the area. Growing up in Chatsworth was mostly tough but at times, I remember it being fun too. I do feel now that the place has deteriorated much and that poverty and crime have escalated to absurd levels. The community cared for and brought up the children of the neighborhood. It was a safe neighborhood, we would play out in the streets until late in the evenings before our parents would summon us. Drugs, alcohol, and gang related incidents may have been around but not as prevalent as nowadays. I remember making cricket bats out of pieces of timber from discarded wooden crates and steering old car tyres by inserting two wooden broom handles into it. Kites, wooden spin tops, and marbles were the activities that we had enjoyed as children.

Television only gained popularity in the early 80's. Not every household could afford these motion picture boxes, and those that did would usually find a large gathering of friends in their homes waiting to watch programs like The Lone Ranger, Haas Daas and Willie Wallie. Adults would eagerly await their weekly dose of films like Dallas, Dynasty and Falcon Crest which were shown late at night. Children were restricted from watching these films because of the kissing scenes, racy swimming costumes and the like.

I completed my schooling in 1992 and married my childhood girlfriend. These early days were the beginning of my changing tides and I had to ride the high waves alone. I don't regret anything that I have had to endure because the hard and painful lessons have made me the man I am today. Suffice to say that the tides are continuosly changing and I still find myself having to adapt to life's lessons. It is for this reason that I have started this site to share my life experiences and assure you that what ever pain or unfortunate circumstances that you may find yourself in now, is only temporary and it will come to pass. You will surely be the better for having experienced it.
